Cryptocurrency exchange OKX has named Linda Lacewell as its new Chief Legal Officer (CLO) following the departure of Mauricio Beugelmans, the company announced on Tuesday.
Lacewell, who joined OKX as a board member last year, previously served as the Superintendent and head of the New York Department of Financial Services. Her appointment comes as OKX seeks to expand into key markets, including Europe and the United Arab Emirates.
“Her leadership comes at a pivotal time as we expand into key markets such as Europe and U.A.E.,” OKX stated.
The leadership change follows a report from CoinDesk revealing that Beugelmans’ departure was linked to OKX’s recent legal troubles. The exchange was fined over $500 million by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for facilitating more than $5 billion in “suspicious transactions and criminal proceeds,” according to DOJ findings.
