In a rare event, two bitcoin wallets that had been inactive for over 13 years made notable transactions on August 25. The wallets, created on February 8, 2011, moved a total of 75 bitcoins, valued at approximately $4.7 million, just below the $64,000 mark where bitcoin has recently hovered.
These transactions are particularly significant as they mark the first activity from 2011 this month and are among the rare occurrences of dormant bitcoin reawakening. Such movements have become increasingly uncommon, with older transactions from 2009, 2010, and 2011 being notably sparse compared to more recent years.
The first transaction involved the wallet identified as “1EySSG,” which transferred 10.41 BTC, splitting the amount into two separate transactions: 9.41 BTC and 1 BTC. Simultaneously, another wallet, “1L8SX,” transferred 64.59 BTC, also splitting the amount into two transactions: 63.59 BTC and 1 BTC. All transferred funds were ultimately consolidated into a Bech32 wallet, “bc1q7.”
The movement of these long-dormant bitcoins underscores the enduring relevance of early adopters in the cryptocurrency sphere and serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of bitcoin holdings.
