Ethereum’s Goerli testnet faced a challenge today at 6:32 UTC during the Dencun upgrade, a key step in the platform’s shift to a proof-of-stake model. This situation is primarily due to low participation from validators (especially those using Prysm software), resulting in complexities associated with finalizing the network.
As validators gradually reconnect, consensus issues that have arisen are starting to be resolved, indicating an improvement in the situation. This upgrade played a crucial role in the development of Ethereum, introducing original danksharding and temporary data blobs. These enhancements are designed to enhance data availability and reduce the cost of Layer 2 platforms, an integral component of extended networks.
As Ethereum makes steady progress towards fully transitioning to proof-of-stake, testing of the Sepolia and Holesky testnets is imminent. The upcoming mainnet upgrade is highly anticipated, and following its implementation, the Ethereum Foundation intends to discontinue support for the Goerli testnet.
